According to Bloomberg, Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer Bitmain is under investigation by U.S. Homeland Security to assess whether its products pose a national security risk. The probe, dubbed "Operation Red Sunset," is focused on whether Bitmain's machines can be remotely manipulated for espionage or to disrupt the U.S. power grid. Bitmain denies the allegations, asserting its compliance with U.S. laws.
Despite recent market downturns, Fundstrat co-founder and BitMine chairman Tom Lee maintains his prediction that Bitcoin will reach $150,000-$200,000 by the end of January. Lee is banking on the long-term strength of retail investors to drive the market higher.
The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) announced the arrest of 128 individuals and the seizure of $32.6 million in cryptocurrency and cash as part of a crackdown on Russian sanctions evasion. The operation, dubbed "Operation Destabilise," aims to disrupt illicit financial flows.
CME FedWatch data indicates that markets are pricing in a 69.4% chance of a 25 basis point rate cut by the Federal Reserve in December. This reflects increasing expectations of monetary policy easing.
